What are people saying about A BodyWise Approach?

"The first words that come to mind are unbelievably grateful. I had heard several good reviews about Avery's work, but I must admit I held some skepticism that such "small" movements could actually change my pain levels. That opinion was shattered after my first session. Avery has such a kind and compassionately professional demeanor that immediately I felt at ease. The movements I've learned have literally re-trained my body to begin working in a biomechanically sound way that uses my skeleton correctly and has significantly lessened the pain I was experiencing. It is not a quick fix - you must commit and do the exercises at home. But with commitment and belief you really can change your body and how it operates relatively quickly. With that increase in body awareness, so many other things can become clearer in your life. I am a huge believer!" ~A.L.
"When I asked Avery for private sessions a year ago, I expected a typical yoga class but 1:1, preparing me to begin taking yoga classes again. What I got was so different from my expectations, thank goodness. What I got was someone who looked, learned, appraised, modified, encouraged, cajoled, adapted and ultimately has helped me discover not just my body but my mind and soul as well. I look forward to each session, knowing that each one will reflect how I am feeling that day." ~J.E.
"You had me pain-free in less than two hours - it's been 38 years." ~H.B.
"Avery's BodyWise class that I took in August has helped me to think about how I move and has given me movements to use to "unstick" areas that are not moving freely. They approach this with obvious experience and sensitivity to their clients needs. We all move without really thinking about it. Or when we know something isn't right (for me it is my posture) we are unsure how to do it right. I am so happy they supplied me with "food for thought" and I plan on taking more classes from them in the future." ~L.D.
"You have magic in your hands and in your heart. I'm convinced." ~L.F.
"Avery's work is amazing! A beautiful combination of anatomical insight combined with grace-filled gentleness and a great presence-ing or meeting your body right where it is. And somehow that is a pretty good description of Avery, too: beautiful, grace-filled, gentle, present! How lucky we are to have them in the Gorge." ~S.D.

"If you are seeking the release of physical pain, chronic discomfort or restricted movement to achieve your desired physical goals, your answer is Avery Deane Le Swift. They are a Somatic Embodiment Coach and owner of A BodyWise Approach in Hood River. Avery is a highly skilled heart-centered professional. Their work combines their technical skills of shifting movement patterns with articulate guidance to empower their clients. Their private sessions were the key to supporting me in resolving 20 years of chronic issues and sudden acute leg pain. I am now joyfully moving with ease, strength and flexibility as an active grandmother." ~M.G.

"After initially engaging A BodyWise Approach to work through limited shoulder range of motion, Avery, in a most intuitive and almost uncanny fashion, noticed my mid back and posture was holding/hiding a knot of past stressful events. Like the events themselves were lodged in my body....It was cool. Ok it was actually wicked cool. I had no idea this type of somatic experiencing/healing existed. Avery has (is?) a special gift. I've just now lined up my Mom to work with them as well. Thank you Avery." ~D.G.

"I first came to Avery 6 months ago with a request to evaluate my physical capabilities to ski.  I chose them because they seemed to know the bones, the muscles, the tendons, and how the joints are put together and how they work.  I am a 69 year old retired engineer, and have not skied since a ski injury 11 years ago that broke my planar tibial plateau in several pieces.  I have a permanently swollen left foot diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and intermittent plantar fasciitis.  I had been dealing with hip pain for years, most recently from bursitis that was better when I first went to Avery, having recently had a hip patch and physical therapy through an Osteopathic Surgeon.  I am also in the beginnings of osteopenia and osteoarthritis with its accompanying aches and pains.  Behind these ailments was a fear that I was aging faster than the previous year, fueled by noticing that I was beginning to walk like an old lady leaning forward and with a history of fairly severe immunological problems on both sides of my family.  I am active and wanted to at least be able to take longer hikes relatively pain free without NSAIDs and to be noticeably stronger in the future.

Avery walked me through my objectives in the first session.  They spent quite a bit of time working on my hips in the first few weeks.  Indeed, my hips immediately improved and have continued to improve through all of this 6 months.  At first just the sharp pains went away.  Then the pain that I would feel in my left hip when I lay on my back slowly went away.  As I changed my gait and way that I walked I would occasionally get new intermittent pains, but these are also starting to go away.  I now have a fairly large toolbox of simple exercises that relieve pain and reduce swelling, while improving how I move and hold my body.  Avery has carefully taught me each exercise and regularly reviews them with me based on what I tell them.

Meanwhile, my walking and striding has improved.  Indeed I am now much more sure footed when hiking.   I went on a trail about two months into our work and noticed that I was feeling more comfortable stepping on and around rocks.  My husband said that my stride was smoother.  As I improve in my hiking and walking, we continue to move toward different exercises.

I am totally impressed with how Avery works on and with my body and how they help me understand my body. They understands each bone, muscle, tendon, the structure of the joint and how it all moves together in great detail. I would recommend their help to anyone, but especially those that have injuries or like me, have old habits perhaps from injuries, that need to be changed.  “Stand up straight” and “walk heel to toe using all of your foot” just wasn’t enough anymore." ~M.B.
